We were recruited by nineteen:ten church in Boerne, Texas to film & edit their Camp Ascend: A youth camp in Colorado, USA.
THE LANDING - SUNDAY
I left for Colorado on June 29th with the nineteen:ten church worship band. It was a 12-24 hour drive from Boerne, Texas to the destination spot in Colorado. Once we arrived I helped the worship band set up the stage for the week, then we had some downtime to relax and acclimate to the higher altitude. The students from nineteen:ten left via bus on Saturday evening and arrived at the camp ground Sunday afternoon - that's when the filming started. Even though the first day of camp was a half-day, it was still a fast-paced film experience.
DAY 2 - MONDAY
The downtime was great while it lasted, but it was over as soon as the students landed. I spent the majority of Sunday night editing so that the Arrival video was ready to play for the students the very next morning. Monday was filled with activities, worship, fellowship, and a great word from the guest Pastors.
DAY 3 - TUESDAY
Time flies! After another long night of editing to push Day 2 to completion it was time for day 3. I woke up early in the morning to catch breakfast with the campers and grab a coffee from the on-grounds coffee shop. This camp and the Colorado air was truly spectacular.
DAY 4 - WEDNESDAY
I couldn't believe it was already Wednesday. The night before the nineteen:ten media team treated me to some snacks from a nearby restaurant - and also a few cases of Monster Energy drinks, the silver/white can, obviously. We also confiscated a nearby fridge and relocated it to where the editing was taking place.
THE CAMP RECAP
The final day of camp didn't get it's own recap video, but I had the mission of creating a recap video for the entire week of camp. After filming day 5, I spent what little time I had that evening to organize what I thought was my best footage from the entire week. That evening I loaded back up in a van with the worship team and began the trip back to Texas. After a really long drive with intermittent food stops, we finally arrived back home. Now it was time to edit the video and have it ready by Sunday morning.
The edit was a success, and the week was so amazing. I'm grateful for the abilities God gave me to be able to assist in this capacity, I'm grateful to have experienced the beautiful state of Colorado that He created, and I'm grateful for having witnessed how God moved in the lives of both the students and leaders throughout that week.
