Users will soon be able to choose from new view options in your Instagram feed.
The other day I produced a video and wrote a blog about some changes coming to the Instagram platform in 2022. One of the changes I discussed in that content was that the chronological feed would be making a comeback on the platform. Today Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, made an additional statement confirming that the chronological feed would be coming back within the first half of 2022. He also went into details about an addition feature.
Coming soon, Instagram will allow you to select between three different views for your feed. Those are Home, Favorites, and Following.
If you select the Home view, your Instagram feed will look and function just like it does now. You’ll see content based off of Instagram’s recommendations. In other words, you’ll see what the algorithm wants you to see.
If you select the Favorites view, your Instagram feed will only include content from profiles you’ve favorited. Users will be able to use this to only see content from their favorite creators, family, or friends.
If you select the Following view, your instagram feed will be chronological like the good ole’ days. You’ll see content in the order it was posted in (newest-to-oldest), from everyone you follow.
These changes are a welcome change to the Instagram platform. Currently I don’t know enough to understand how this will affect user behavior, thereby affecting our marketing behavior. But once I know more I’ll be sure to share more.
